Frank Terry - Offshore Talent Acquisition Advisor

About Frank

The start of my business journey was working alongside my brother as a sales executive at my father’s telecommunications company. The synergy was apparent, and we quickly became partners in crime as a sales force to be reckoned with.

Although I enjoyed my time in sales, I found myself investing my time in new business efficiency strategy. Fast forward 3 years and we formed Reachinout, a successful, industry leading Linkedin lead generation platform that provided the UK market with a brand-new form of cold outreach. My part in which was strategic planning, process streamlining, technical strategic planning and the odd sale here and there.

Whilst trying to improve our operations and reduce costs I quickly found myself in the offshore talent acquisition world, every business in the UK and the world should have access to this incredible resource!

An interview with Frank

Tell us a little bit about your work and your role.

I keep the clock ticking! What I mean by this is… There is a lot of operational matters that ensure a smooth client/employer first impression. From candidate acquisition, Candidate qualification and pre interview preparation… I try make sure I am as involved in the end-to-end process as possible.

What does your work with a client usually involve?

Very simple, we find our client offshore talent. The work leading up to the interview is normally asking and identifying the job role which we need to source.

How did you get into this field of work?

It spawned from my company, ReachInOut, where half of our workforce is offshore talent. My Brother and I agreed all businesses need the access to this incredible resource.

What excites you about your role?

South Africa has an unemployment rate of 30%. Every candidate we place in the UK makes me feel like I’m making an important difference.

What does your ideal client look like?

Any business that wants to employ a hard-working and costs effective workforce.

What have your highlights been so far?

We are a young company that started in my bedroom at my parent’s house… And now we are a strong team of 30 and moving into a serviced office!

What are the challenges currently facing your sector?

It’s a hard topic to address but racism can be a big part of it. We have had to turn prospects away for negative racial prejudices multiple times which is heart breaking.

Do you find companies try to do this area of work themselves - and get stuck? What are the common issues?

100 percent. I think we must educate our prospects on how technology has allowed offshore remote working to be a seamless employment process with us.

We have a background in telecommunications which helped us create a technologically seamless employment process.

We also have an office in South Africa which adheres to the employment and tax laws. It has taken years of constructing and so I wouldn’t recommend trying to do it yourself in case you find yourself in trouble!

Should a busy entrepreneur prioritise this area of work? How can they make time for it with everything else on their plate?

Reviewing company costs should be one of the top priorities for any business owner. The wage bill is likely the largest cost to review so therefore, I believe it should be at the top of the to do list!

What's the best advice you've been given?

Stay humble.

How do you see your work changing over the next ten years?

I think we are on the verge of an international recruitment revolution and so I believe the development of this business will grow tremendously over the next ten years due to cultural change and hard work.

What do you do when you're not at work?

I spend time as much time with my wife and daughter as possible and when they have had enough of me… you will find me enjoying a well-deserved cold beer in the garden.

What are the benefits do you think of working together in a collective way like Runway Advisors?

I’m honoured to be part of a credible group of professionals in all sectors. I want to help and educate where can. On the other side of the coin, I am a young entrepreneur and I still have plenty to learn!

Could you provide an example of a common question or issue that clients present you with, and write a few lines in response?

How can we integrate the remote worker into our team effectively?

The working landscape has changed over the last two years due to Covid19 which has allowed businesses to test working remotely.

The last two years have produced results that show that remote working has not decreased productivity… This has made employers much more confident in hiring remote staff. This has now opened the path to employ in remote countries to find candidates with the same if not better skills or proficiencies.
